Southwestern Oregon opened the collegiate volleyball season this past weekend in Springfield at the NWAC Fall Showcase. The Lakers fell to Columbia Basin 2-0, beat Olympic 2-1, and lost to Spokane 2-0 on Saturday. On Sunday, SWOCC lost to Lower Columbia 2-0 and Bellevue 3-1. Southwestern plays Feather River on Wednesday, Aug. 21. The Laker soccer teams were also in Springfield for their openers. The men tied Columbia Basin 1-1 Saturday and lost to Edmonds 2-0 on Sunday. The women’s team fell to Walla Walla 3-0 Saturday, and then beat Blue Mtn. 6-0 on Sunday. Both teams host Pierce College on Friday, Sept. 2.
