On July 24, 2017 at about 8AM, OSP Troopers, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, and other emergency personnel responded to the report of a single vehicle crash on Highway 20 near MP 10 (at Pioneer Trail, east of Newport). Preliminary investigation revealed a 2005 Nissan Titan pickup operated by Andrew BEAUCHAMP, age 33, of Newport, was traveling westbound on Highway 20 when the vehicle drove off the westbound shoulder and struck a guard rail. The Nissan went airborne and struck a tree, causing BEAUCHAMP to be ejected. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Speed is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash. It is also believed BEAUCHAMP was not wearing a safety belt. Highway 20 was completely closed for a short period of time.
